Get into great company
To be effective, learning needs to be supported, guided and directed. So, with this in mind, we provide comprehensive support designed to nurture and encourage leaders of the future. Primarily, you’ll benefit from having a placement manager and a programme manager, along with a mentor, throughout your time on the scheme. And just to make entirely sure, a workplace buddy, trainee networks, educational tutors and a Board level sponsor, complete the picture.
Programme manager
Throughout your two or two and a half years training, your programme manager will take the lead on your support, training, learning and development. They’ll also help with identifying the very best placement managers, giving you a world-class leadership development experience.
Placement manager
With a passion for developing fast-track learners, the placement manager takes responsibility for your day-to-day management - the most crucial aspect of a successful placement. Working in partnership with the programme manager, they will design, develop and co-ordinate your work experience, as well as managing your performance against high standards and challenging objectives.
Mentor
Providing guidance, support and direction, your mentor will most likely be a chief executive or an executive director ideally from another NHS organisation. Actively championing and promoting your causes, your mentor will also support you in achieving your potential through regular, structured meetings.
Buddy
Current trainees offer informal support and guidance to new trainees. Your buddy will have experience of your organisation and specialty. Though, where this isn’t possible, your buddy would be selected from the management trainee network.
Director level sponsor
Your senior supporter in your organisation, your sponsor will provide advice and guidance, and may also become your mentor.
Leadership development manager (LDM)
Managing the Graduate Management Training Scheme across the respective strategic health authorities (SHAs), LDMs work both strategically and operationally to secure the best placements and ensure that the best people are available to support and develop trainees. As well as working closely to support local steering groups in delivering the scheme and ensuring national standards are complied with, LDMs provide the local link that enables local leadership initiatives. They play an important role within the marketing and recruitment campaign.
