Leading the way in improving working lives
You can be confident that no other organisation is more concerned with your health
and well-being.
Ensuring all of our employees have a healthy work/life balance is a prime directive
for us.
That’s why the “Improving Working Lives” standard is the cornerstone of our work
– our visible commitment to becoming a good, healthy employer. And it's setting
a standard so high that it has been adopted by regulatory bodies to assess organisations.
The standard sets out the benchmarks by which NHS organisations can create flexible
working environments that promote staff welfare and development, and enable NHS
staff to measure their employer's human resources management, by offering progressive
employment practices such as:
- Flexible working (including options for flexible retirement)
- Valuing equality and diversity
- Access to childcare and carer support
- Tackling discrimination, harassment and bullying in the workplace
- Training and development
- Health in work
- Staff involvement and communication
Employers across the NHS are also working in partnership with a number of programmes
and initiatives, including Investors In People (IIP) and their "Health and Well-being
at Work" framework. We’re also working with the Department of Health's "Health,
Work and Well-being" strategy, and the "Positively Diverse" programme.
