What is the NHS Gateway to Leadership programme?
Our Gateway to Leadership programme is designed to attract talented and experienced senior managers and to develop their potential to progress to senior leadership roles in the NHS.
What does the programme entail?
Candidates will be employed in NHS organisations in senior managerial roles. You’ll be sponsored by the Trust's Chief Executive and provided with a comprehensive programme of development.
Do I need prior knowledge or experience of the NHS?
No – experience is not essential but may be useful.
What kind of work will I be doing?
Roles vary from Trust to Trust, but essentially you will get involved with people, resource and budget management; work alongside clinical colleagues and focus on how the NHS can be modernised to meet patients' needs.
What are my long-term career prospects?
Most people spend up to 18 months in their first post, depending on progress and opportunities for development. We would expect you to progress to NHS Trust Director level within 3 - 5 years and then on to Chief Executive.
